Continuation......

haha, after some encouragement, i decided to pen down something to keep this blog alive.

I parted with what-$500 for my bike again today - 2 months worth of my stinking bike.

Anyway, i went to watch a getai today!! What an experience!! It was hosted by this "Wang2 Lei2" apparently touted as the brother of Hokkien Pop King "Chen2 Lei2". He was hilarious man, poking fun at all the singers that came on stage to perform. He made those crude jokes and lewd comments/actions which totally cracked the audience up, haha even the females regardless of age were laughing it off too!! i'm serious!! So please do not think that its a guy thing to appreciate these crude jokes with some sexual content. hahaha

The overall experience was great, seriously a must-have!! It was quite enjoyable but the standing from 1930 to 2300 was simply awful... by around 10, my feet felt as though there were going to disintegrate any moment. It must be due to my Plantar Fasciilitis and my stress fractures lar hahahaha.

Actually, Wang Lei was emphasizing that Getai nowadays had already evolved alot and its a culture of the chinese to stage one during the hungry ghost festival. It no longer a stereotype where uncles and ah peks who would be there to mentally rape those scantily clad female dancers. Now there is an increasing number of audience who's age range between 20 to 30s, who would go catch a getai every weekend. To add-on, there is an already steadily increasing number of performers who are in their late teens who would "pao3 tai2" every weekend.

It is no longer an event targeted solely at the "lao-yi-beis" and soon "catching getais" might become a trend in the new generation of Singaporeans.

In order to enjoy a Getai, one must satisfy the following prerequisites:

1. Understand Hokkien
2. Must be a heartlandish person
3. Must be able to stand for long hours unless you can get a seat
4. Must be appreciative of crude jokes and lewd comments

Once you meet the requirements, all you need is a light-hearted mood and just enjoy the show!!
